Question by Nat T: CALIFORNIA LOTTERY Scratcher – I won 00, how much after taxes, and how long after my claim until I get it?
I won a little over 00 last night playing a CA Lottery scratcher – I’m going in to claim it Monday morning – I have a few questions

1) Once I claim at the lotto office, how do I get my money?
2) How long until I get the money
3) How much should I expect to lose to taxes?
4) Am I taxed instantly, or in April?

    1) Once all the paperwork is complete, the lottery office should cut you a check.
    2) Not absolutely sure here, but I’d doubt it should take more than a couple of days – certainly shouldn’t be more than a week.
    3) Between Federal and State tax, I’d expect somewhere around 30-40%
    4) Uncle Sam doesn’t wait…

    Remember you may deduct gambling losses from gambling winnings for the year.
